Bouldin Creek Cafe is a vibrant vegetarian restaurant built out of both the owner's love of the creative spirit of Austin, and a desire to create a unique gathering space reflective of that. We are committed to making community our primary goal, even as Austin continues to grow and change.
We built a loyal following over ten years in our original 1,000 square foot location in a house just 3 blocks north on South 1st. When we opened in May of 2000, a small menu was provided as a means of bringing people together. As people relished our unique vegetarian offerings, we evolved into a full scale vegetarian eatery and reputable coffee bar. As the restaurant part of Bouldin grew, it became necessary to have an adequate kitchen, and a building that could handle the abuse of a busy cafe. In order for us to focus on our goals as a community and as a business, the focus had to be taken off the daily maintenance required of a rundown, undersized house. Although we miss many aspects of the original location, our new space allows us to really thrive as a sustainable business. It allows us to serve and employ many more people, and to reach a larger demographic.
We are happy that our food was popular enough to facilitate this move. We also know that this is an adjustment for some customers. The good news is that we have been fortunate and grateful that our current location has been busy from the first day we opened the doors. The unfortunate news is that we have been experiencing some tough growing pains in the transition. Creating that down-home feel and sense of community that is synonymous with Bouldin in such a large and high volume restaurant, though challenging, is a goal we are committed to, and meeting with daily improvements. We are appreciative of all those who have encouraged and stuck by us, as well as all of those who are just now giving us a try, and are happy you are joining us for the next exciting phase of Bouldin Creek Cafe.
